    Klubradio, a case of pre-meditated political provocation

    The situation that has evolved in response to the result of the tender invited for the Budapest 95.3 MHz frequency is a case of consciously planned, pre-meditated, sheer political provocation. Local and international political organisations, prominent left-wing and liberal public figures and the members of foreign diplomatic corps have for almost a year been attempting to put pressure on the Media Council of the National Media and Infocommunications Authority. The goal of these political pressure groups was to achieve that the Media Council, in violation of the principle of equal opportunities, invite the tender for the utilisation of the Budapest 95.3 MHz frequency explicitly with a view to the needs of Klubradio, and to thereby ensure that Klubradio is awarded a frequency.

    New Radio Stations in Budapest

    The Media Council of the National Media and Infocommunications Authority (the Media Authority) adopted its decision today about the tenders for the local regional radio frequencies of Budapest 89.5 MHz, Budapest 103.9 MHz and Budapest 95.3 MHz. It is expected that the new radio stations will start broadcasting during the first quarter of 2012 at all three Budapest frequencies.

    According to the decision adopted by the Constitutional Court, the new media regulation, as far as its goals and system are concerned, is constitutional and is in line with the rules of democratic society. It is constitutional that the regulations impose obligations regarding the content of the printed and online press products. The rules applicable in terms of the registration requirement are also constitutional, and it is also constitutional that the regulatory tasks related to the printed and online press products are performed by the National Media and Infocommunications Authority and the Media Council.
